Question

Proper removal of Hot Shot Flea powder

Hello there!

I placed the Hot Shot Flea powder on the carpet prior to leaving our home over a week ago thus I am confident it has settled at this time. Will vacuuming the carpet be sufficient to remove the powder and make the environment safe for an animal (cat) once completed? Or is more ventilation after vacuuming required?

Cheers,

No problem. We're sorry you're frustrated, but we're happy to help. When treating for bed bugs, it's very important to treat all common hiding places thoroughly with this spray as needed. This liquid spray is good for the bed frame, areas around the bed and the mattress itself, as well as spot treatment where you're noticing bed bugs. Remove all of your bedding and wash and dry all washable fabrics at high heat. If you're not able to thoroughly treat with this spray, you might want to think about supplementing with our fogger: http://www.hotshot.com/Products-and-Solutions/Bedbug-Control/Bedbug-Fogger.aspx. Bed bugs are tough, and they take persistence to get rid of yourself. Please let us know if we can offer any more advice.

Question

1 year old daughter with bedbugs

So its safe to use on or around beds but if the product is completely dry. Do we need to wash the treated areas before letting her in the area? Is it safe for her to sleep in her bed at night? I don't want her to inhale anything that could harm her.

Hi Brittany. You'll want to let her room air out very thoroughly before allowing your daughter back inside to sleep. Wash and dry all of her bedding at high heat; no need to wash treated surfaces, though.

Fogging will kill bed bugs in all accessible areas. If an infestation has traveled within your walls, though, you'll need to call a professional.

Hi Angie. Yes, it's ok to spot treat on your walls if you're having problems there -- just test on a small, inconspicuous area of your paint, wallpaper or paneling for staining before you treat everywhere.

If you're treating the entire house, all people and pets should leave. If you're only treating select rooms, moving your dog to another area of the house until the spray is completely dry is sufficient.

Generally, this powder is safe to use if you have dogs, but they should be out of the area while you're applying (to avoid inhalation until the dust settles) and you should seep the powder into cracks and crevices wherever possible. For health-related concerns, please call us at 1-800-633-2873.

Question

Does the hot shot flea and beg bug spray work

I live in an apartment and was told that it would be hard for my husband and I to get rid of the bed bugs by ourselves. We would have to pay 800-900 for an exterminator to come out. Our kids went on an field trip to a woody area and bought them back.

You can control bed bugs yourself, but patience and persistence will be needed. Spray around the bed, baseboards and around carpeting (in labeled areas where bed bugs are a problem), then continue to follow up weekly until they're gone. Vacuum often and wash and dry all bedding and other infested washables at the highest heat the fabric can withstand. Good luck!

You should continue to spot treat areas where you're seeing bedbugs as needed. You should not treat your bedding -- wash and dry everything at high heat to kill bedbugs and their eggs. This is a non-staining product, but we do recommend testing on a small, inconspicuous area of your particular furniture before spraying everywhere.
